Ford Classic: A Classic Car

Ford Motor Company, the global automotive giant established its wholly owned subsidiary Ford India Limited here in the year 1995 and it owns some really good cars here. One such car which has been now in the market for a long time is the Classic.

This sedan was introduced here almost a decade ago, though it was known as Ford Fiesta Classic then. But high price and increased competition led to low sales and finally, the company was forced to reduce its prices and Fiesta Classic paved way for Ford Classic.

The Classic is one of the best driver’s cars on sale today. It is available with two engine options – a 1.6litre, 4-cylinder, Duratec petrol unit that produces 101 PS and 146 Nm of torque and a 1.4litre, 4-cylinder, Duratorq diesel motor that develops 68 PS and 160 Nm of torque. Both engines are BS IV compliant and come with a 5 speed, manual gearbox.

The Ford Classic’s petrol variant reaches from start to 100 kmph in 11.43 seconds and has a maximum speed of 170 kmph. The diesel variant is able to accelerate from rest to a speed of 100 kmph in 12.8 seconds and has a top speed of 165 kmph. The petrol engine provides fuel economy of 21 kmpl whereas the diesel engine provides 32 kmpl. A well sorted suspension and chassis guides in a smooth ride and the handling part is also fairly agreeable.

Ford Classic, with a simple yet elegant design looks like a proper sedan. The black surrounding in the front on the signature radiator grille and the cute fog lamps add to its beauty. The headlamps get a chrome surrounding. The electrically operated side view mirrors are body coloured and have turn indicators on them.  The rear end has a curvy boot lid along with other things like a large windscreen, rear defogger and variant badging.

The interiors of the sedan complements well to the striking exteriors. The roomy dual tone cabin gets comfortable seats and an advanced instrument panel with illumination and other easy to use controls. The matching upholstery and soft touch plastics all around the door panels impart a premium feel. Safety and comfort features include programmable keyless entry, ABS, EBD and airbags for the front passenger and driver, collapsible steering column, anti-theft system, central locking, an audio system featuring Bluetooth connectivity and speed-sensing volume controls, locks that activate at a particular speed, drive away locks, alloy wheels etc.

Ford Classic is available in colours like Smoke Grey, Moon-dust Silver, Chill Metallic, Panther black, Paprika red and Diamond white at a price of Rs 5.4-8 lakhs. This price makes the Classic more competitive against the Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Xcent.
